Bringing Clarity to Hidden Infrastructure
Managing large, mission-critical facilities requires more than just what you can see above ground. The South Carolina Army National Guard needed to better understand and document the underground utilities across 11 facilities totaling more than 300,000 square feet. To achieve this, Atkins and Marstel-Day contracted FORCE to provide the specialized expertise required to complete the work with accuracy and efficiency.
The goal wasn’t simply to locate utilities—it was to deliver dependable data that could be integrated into CAD and GIS systems, supporting facility planning, maintenance, and long-term risk management.
Our Approach
Contracted by Atkins and Marstel-Day, FORCE deployed a blend of advanced technologies and field-proven practices to systematically capture utility data across all sites. Our team used Trimble GNSS survey equipment, electromagnetic utility locators, ground penetrating radar, and direct visual verification to ensure comprehensive results.
Every step of the process followed ASCE standards for depicting subsurface utilities, guaranteeing the deliverables were accurate, consistent, and ready for immediate use.
The Outcome
Through this effort, FORCE delivered:
- Quality Level B utility data for 11 Guard facilities
- Precise horizontal positioning of utilities, verified by multiple methods
- A fully integrated dataset designed for both CAD and GIS platforms
Why It Mattered
By contracting FORCE, Atkins and Marstel-Day ensured that the South Carolina Army National Guard received a reliable, detailed record of its underground infrastructure. With this knowledge, the Guard can now plan improvements, conduct maintenance, and expand facilities with reduced risk and greater efficiency.
This project highlighted FORCE’s role as a trusted partner—bringing technical expertise and field execution to a larger team effort, and delivering results that directly supported the Guard’s mission.
